Shared services
NCB operates a 'shared services' model of core
service provision to the wide range of internal organisations and
partnership programmes which operate under our charitable
status.
This infrastructure support is also
available to external agencies or voluntary organisations working
with children, young people and families and wishing to improve the
efficiency and effectiveness of their operations.
NCB is able to offer support across all
aspects of an organisation – either on a long-term, or an ad hoc
basis. This support may include: human resource functions;
administration and facilities assistance; IT; finance; media and
marketing; publishing; training and event management services.
The model provides organisations with the
means to consolidate and simplify internal processes through
increased efficiency; enhanced service delivery and offers a
framework to focus limited resources on core activities of working
for children and young people.
NCB's shared services model was further
refined during the period 2003/07 when a consortium of children and
young people's organisation, led by NCB, came together within the
Children's Centre Project (CCP). CCP was established to explore the
potential for colocation of the organisations involved alongside
the adoption in collaborative working practices. Colocation in a
new building was not to be achieved, however collaborative working
patterns were. Some of NCB's existing shared services relationships
originate from that time. Two reports were published from this
work: The cooperate
sector: evaluating partnership approaches in the voluntary
sector; and The dynamics of
partnerships: exploring an inter-organisational collaboration
project.
