Tackling Bullying
in the Community
Theme: Well-being
"Bullying happens
everywhere – at the park, in school, lessons, on the way home, on
buses – it is everywhere – happens to me every day..." (male, aged
14, with emotional, behavioural and learning difficulties) Over
recent years, the Anti-Bullying Alliance (ABA) has become
increasingly aware of how bullying in the wider community can
impact on the well-being of children and young people. To support
local practitioners to get to grips with the new DCSF Safe from
Bullying guidance on tackling bullying in a range of community
settings, ABA is organising a series of one-day conferences in each
of the nine government regions, including this event in
Birmingham.

Childhood
Bereavement: Telling the Story
Theme:
Well-being
Organised by the Childhood Bereavement Network in partnership with
11 Million, the Office of the Children’s Commissioner for England,
this important conference will hear lessons from research about the
stories bereaved children tell about their past, present and
future, and how careful listening to these stories can improve the
support available to them. It will include a focus on the specific
needs of bereaved Gypsy and Traveller children, an often silenced
group, and also explore the negative and positive aspects of
families’ stories being told in the media.
